Well, another year older today. Just been mostly the usual daily run around here. Grabbed some lunch quickly with Mum between ballet lessons and then had a quick browse in an antique shop around the corner from the ballet studio.
I had a lovely surprise this morning when my dear "pen friend" from Northern Ireland rang me. This year it has been 27 years of being friends. We have never met and we both so hope that one day we will.
I can remember the day at school when my English teacher handed me a little piece of blue paper with her name and address on it. I had paid 50 cents to get a pen pal - I now wonder why on earth I had to pay!!
So I wrote her a letter and she wrote back - and so it has been for almost 27 years. She wasn't even aware that she was getting a penpal! School, jobs, boyfriends, engagements, weddings, babies, good times and sad times we have been friends and I hope it will continue until we are old ladies. Our little girls now write sometimes too - so maybe the four of us will meet someday.
My dear friends took me out for morning tea yesterday. I had such a lovely morning with them. I really can't remember that last time I had been out with friends like that - what a sad life I live!! I was spoilt with lovely cards and gifts but the most precious and dear thing to me is them and their friendship and love that they pour out on me.
I called into the nursery on the way home and bought this little box full of vege goodness. I hope to get them planted this afternoon.
Look at my clematis. It is just beautiful at the moment. We had lovely rain in the last week andeverything is looking just beautiful. Our little spot in Queensland has missed out on the very big rain that has fallen elsewhere, so our lovely rainfall last week was very much needed.
Well off to the garden now. I hope someone cooks me tea - or at least gets me some from somewhere - because I am not cooking!!

I hope that you had a very Happy Birthday. It sounds like you had a wonderful day.
Happy Happy Birthday Leisa I hope you have a wonderful day. How fantastic to have a pen friend for so many years. I love your clematis I can not get them to grow down here have tried several times with a very sad outcome for the plant.
Barabara just told me yesterday Leisa that it was your birthday...HAPPY BIRTHDAY! I believe I may be having the pleasure of meeting you in person sometime in the next couple of weeks..I shall look forward to it! Not quite as exciting as meeting your pen pal of 27 years but none the less......
Your clematis sure is looking beautiful. We have had so many grasshoppers, a lot of my plants haven't been performing too well at all.
I hope you had a wonderful day yesterday and that you got to spend plenty of time pottering in your garden,
Angela.
Belated birthday greetings! I just had to leave a comment about how you received your penfriend. I had a similar experience ... I thought we were just practising writing letters but our English teacher must have sent them off. I too received my penfriend's name and address on a little slip of blue paper (reading your post reminded me!) That was in 1968. We have met though, in 1989 when I travelled to the UK.
I have only recently discovered and your site and enjoy visiting. Thanks, Kathy
